Sunday stroll in Aberystwyth
You may have seen via my Instagram that we spent the weekend with friends in Aberystwyth and despite Storm Brian’s best efforts we were lucky enough to go for a stroll on Sunday. Living in a relatively urban and densely populated area we love spending time in more rural / remote places, especially with such good friends. Bella also loved the fact there were sheep in the garden! It’s so nice to wrap up and get some proper fresh air, perfect for blowing the cobwebs away.
Aberystwyth is over 200 miles from us so we tried to be quite tactical for the drives with Bella. We left ours at about 5.30pm and kept Bella awake with Peppa pig on the iPad*. We stopped at about 7.30pm and gave her a bottle of milk and ourselves dinner. The iPad was then switched firmly off and I expected her to go out like a light...but I should know by now these bambinos don’t always go along with our plans. She ended up staying awake in the car until about 9pm, quite happy looking out the window - I think as it was dark she was intrigued by all the lights whizzing by. Do you have any tips for really long car journeys with toddlers in terms of timings / entertainment?
*for long journeys where we want to keep Bella awake we now put our iPad in the case that our car mirror used to sit in. I really try to avoid screen time but for me I’d much rather have Bella sitting happily watching Peppa Pig than have her screaming her head off in the back of the car while trying to concentrate on navigating the M1. And I certainly wouldn’t have it on for short trips around town, just a disclaimer for any #judgymums
