St Albans Christmas market
In St Albans we're lucky to have our own Christmas market. What it lacks in scale compared to the likes of winter wonderland in Hyde Park it makes up for with its quaint festive feel and absence of tack.
One of my favourite parts of this pretty city we live in is the cathedral so it's lovely that the market is set in it's shadow, in the Vintry gardens. Bella and I spent many a summer afternoon in these gardens with our buddies so it's nice to now be spending a few (freezing) afternoons wandering around with a hot chocolate / mulled wine.
There are about 40 chalets selling everything from crepes, to baileys hot chococlates, to chirstmas decorations.....
and then some not so festive items....
There is also a snow globe and a Santa's grotto, both of which are a bit grown up for Bella but I'm sure we'll be making use in years to come.
This year all the food chalets are located in a bit of a circle with some benches in the middle for you to sit and slurp / munch away. How cute are these pictures of my best friend with Bella??
I went for a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream - obvs!
Didn't take long for my little cherub to lock eyes with the prize!
I also couldn't resist a mulled wine with the hubs too!
See below - I've started to use reigns for Bella in this sort of environment so that she can wander about but not run off. Have any of you used them? What are the pros and cons?
We've already had a couple of festive afternoons there and will have a few more by the time Christmas comes around. It's pretty quiet in the day mid week and obviously a bit busier with a bit more an atmosphere at the weekend. There is a tipi in the centre with some live music and carol singing etc. If you live in St Albans I'm sure you've probably already been for a visit, if not there a a few carparks in the town centre. It is also about a 15 minute walk from the station which has trains which will get you into central London in about 15 minutes. More information here
Now pass me the mince pies!
