The coat edit
Another week, another style post from me! We’ve done knitwear and dresses so now it’s time for coats. Before I get into that I wanted to quickly mention where these pictures were taken the Sunday before last as I posted a few Instagram stories and a couple of people messaged me asking to share the deets. We were walking on Seaford beach (Cuckmere Haven) in East Sussex, behind us are the world famous seven sister cliffs which are so stunning and iconic. It’s about 25 minute drive from Brighton and a 15 minute drive from Eastbourne (basically between the two) so if you’re ever in area and fancy a beautiful coastal walk over the cliffs and onto the beach I really recommend it. As my husband grew up close by we have done this walk many times but I have to say I have never seen it looking as beautiful as last Sunday morning with the bright sun and clear blue skies.
Anyway back to the topic of coats, one of my favourite things to do each autumn is pick my winter coat for the season ahead. A coat is a really important purchase from a practical and a style perspective. In the winter months 90% of the general population only see me in my coat so it’s one of my most important purchases.
Last year I went for the Aviator which was a huge trend that thankfully seems to be sticking around, I know I will be living in it again this year. I don’t tend to invest in things I see as a ‘fad trend’ (I’m looking at you oversized / chunky Balenciaga-esque trainers).
I have a parker for the park and rainy days, such a staple coat especially when you’re constantly pushing a buggy - a hood is integral on rainy days.
As well as a shearling / denim jacket for milder winter days.
Teddy / faux fur coats are also all the rage this season as they were last year.
From a more formal perspective I have a lovely Reiss coat which is smart but as it is navy it doesn’t look great with black tights / jeans / trousers. So I set my sights on a more neutral formal coat and struck gold in PRIMARK of all places. I never shop there anymore but every now and then I have a little snoop and in a shop of 946734596409 items find one great buy.
It’s super soft and cosy and at £40 a total bargain. I love camel with both denim and black and this coat will be the one I wear if going out for dinner or when we are out and about on the weekends and I want to look smarter. We were heading for lunch after this walk so the coat helped distract my extremely windswept hair!
What winter coats will you be rocking this year?
