My favourite maternity buys

My favourite maternity buys

Just a real quick post here detailing the few maternity bits I have bought so far. If I am honest I don’t intend to buy that much maternity wear and just choose loose fitting smocks (with jeans while the weather has been pants) and stretchy / oversized items. I’ll wear shirts open with vests and jeans underneath too. I think in this pregnancy I have only bought two pairs of jeans, a pair of dungarees and a Breton (the one I am wearing in these pictures is only £18!). I have also bought other clothes from main ranges but obviously kept in mind so keep them roomy.

Brands that offer maternity ranges tend to have a very small ranges in store (if at all) and a lot more online. People complain about there not being much in the actual shops but coming from a buying background I totally get it. It’s such a niche customer and product and the density of sales vs the space it takes up in store is a real challenge for the already struggling high street. For me H&M and New look are great options on the hight street. ASOS seem to have the widest range out there as they have their own branded bits and then maternity specific brands.

It’s also worth checking out ebay, Depop and Facebook groups for second hand items as people do often sell bundles once they know they’re done with the babies. Good for the environment and your wallet at the same time! Also sharing amongst friends is a good idea too.

When I was pregnant with Bella I lived in ASOS maternity jeans but a friend recommended H&M for this pregnancy and I have to say I think they are the best out there. I guess the good thing about ASOS is you can order loads of pairs, try on at home and send back what you dont’t want. I just made sure I went to H&M for a try on sans toddler and when I had plenty of time.

I brought the first two pairs below back in March and have been living them. I got the black for when I want to look a big smarter. I personally prefer the styles that come right up over the bump as I find it so much more comfortable this way and they don’t slip down as much. Maternity jeans get plenty of wear post baby too while the bump goes back down.

I got the first black jersey pair below and they are super comfy. Definitely size down though they are absolutely enormous! Like the jeans above I’ll be wearing these once baby is here as they’re so easy and comfy with good access to boobs.

Breton dress

You cannot go wrong with a Breton when preg and the wide range of options out there to choose from is proof in the pudding. The stripes are flattering and they can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I just try not to go too tight so I’m not too hot and feel like every lump and bump (besides the obvious one) is visible.

Big floaty dresses

Excuse the tittle but this is just about dresses I have seen that are big, baggy and comfy and usually outside of maternity ranges. Being short I look a a bit like frank the tank in mine but some days I feel so pestered and uncomfortable I don’t want anything tight on my body at all. I am wearing this number from Boden which was gifted to me in the picture below, shoes (gifted) here .

I have never bought maternity swimwear and just worn bikinis and my normal costumes, having said that I have never been away post 28 weeks in which case I might feel the need to invest. I have the cossie below in a few colours, it’s not maternity but the rouching is great with bump, I am still wearing it now when I take Bella swimming at 30 odd weeks.

Of course I also had my beautiful Santorini costume which was gifted to me from Boden that I have been wearing throughout the pregnancy, here

I hope you have found this helpful if expecting - and let me know your favourite maternity go tos!
